Build, Peak, Release
Cory’s timing cue is a bell curve: begin building pressure as the front foot lifts, reach the peak at the top of the leg lift, then release into launch. The bottom hand pulls toward the back foot or catcher while the top hand resists.
Avoid the Two Common Mistakes
Don’t reach maximum tension before peak leg lift or wait until the front foot is down. Don’t yank the knobs apart. Cory emphasizes gentle pressure and allowing the connected position to emerge rather than forcing the hands or barrel into it.
Put it to work
A simple progression.
- Set both hands against the opposing flares.
- Practice the gentle build-and-release timing on a tee.
- Add ball flight once the athlete understands the task.
Organize the effort that’s already there. Don’t add more force.
Use the ball type approved for your model. Start with controlled work and choose a bat suited to the hitter’s size and strength.
