Split Grip Trainer: Uses & Common Mistakes

Hand placement, full swings, short-bat feedback, and one-hand drills—with the mistakes Cory sees most often.

Start Simple. Take a Full Swing.

For first use, Cory places the bottom hand against the bottom knob. Learn the feel on a tee and with front toss before BP or machine work. Check swings can have a purpose, but they are not the only way to train: the handle also allows a full swing and barrel release.

Let the Demonstration Lead

Choke up for short-bat work and notice the extended knob’s feedback when the arms try to muscle the swing. For one-hand work, Cory demonstrates the bottom-hand checkpoint, the sidecar drill, and a J-band drill. Watch the setup rather than guessing the positions.

Put it to work

A simple progression.

  1. Establish the intended feel on a tee.
  2. Add front toss before progressing to batting practice.
  3. For one-hand drills, follow the video’s setup and use the ball type approved for your model.
Use the feedback. Don’t make stopping at contact the default.

Use the ball type approved for your model. Start with controlled work and choose a bat suited to the hitter’s size and strength.
