What Is the Split Grip Trainer?

Understand each hand’s role, then see how one trainer supports split-grip swings, short-bat work, and one-hand drills.

Feel Each Hand’s Role

Cory explains the top hand’s role in controlling the barrel and the bottom hand’s role in stability and direction. The separated-hand setup makes those contributions easier to distinguish.

Three Training Positions

Train with the hands separated, choke up for short-bat work, or isolate either hand. Cory demonstrates a grip in the fingers rather than deep in the palm. The goal is to reveal inefficient movement—not force one swing pattern.

Put it to work

A simple progression.

  1. Use Cory’s hand-placement demonstration to establish the grip.
  2. Get comfortable on a tee and with front toss before progressing.
  3. Use the ball type approved for your specific model. Flat Split uses soft training balls only.
Feel the hands working independently without losing the swing’s purpose.

Use the ball type approved for your model. Start with controlled work and choose a bat suited to the hitter’s size and strength.
